Dr. Xian Du was born in P. R. China. He received his Ph.D. fromthe Innovation in the Manufacturing Systems and Technology (IMST) Programme of the Singapore-MIT Alliance (SMA) at the National University of Singapore. He has strong multi-disciplinary education background and research record in both mechanical engineering and computer science. After graduating from SMA, Dr. Du led a small Research and Development group to develop the color-image control plug-ins in the Windows system for an RGB color printer through image processing GDI functions for Kikuze Solutions Pte. Ltd, Singapore. In addition, Dr. Du worked as a Postdoc associate in France and developed 3-D quantitative imaging segmentation techniques to obtain the sub-voxel accuracy. He developed intelligent image processing and machine learning technology for multidisciplinary applications during his employment at the Computer Science department in the Louisiana Tech University. After postdoctoral training in the laboratory of manufacturing and productivity at MIT, he continued working as a research scientist at MIT.
His cutting-edge multidisciplinary research focuses on developing real-time, in-line measurements of nanometer scalepatterns on meter scale thin film surfaces for roll to roll print process monitoring and feedback control, including on-contact nano sensors to rapidly assess the state of a sample and machine-learning and machine-vision techniques to measure the fidelity of nanoscale patterns embedded in the lower acquired frequency (aliased) patterns. His research interests include computational imaging and visualization, flexible electronics print process, and medical device realization. Additionally, he has been working on extending these large-area high-speed and precise-pattern imaging and analysis techniques to human skin health monitoring.
