Nathan G Tipton

Development and Communications Coordinator

Dr. Tipton was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and raised in New Orleans. He earned both a Master’s and Doctoral Degree in English from the University of Memphis and a bachelor’s degree in English from Rhodes College (Memphis, TN). He is Development and Communications Coordinator at Apelah Special Needs Foster Care in Hernando, Mississippi. He previously served as Research Coordinator in the department of preventive medicine at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (Memphis, TN) and Editor in the department of anthropology at the University of Memphis (Memphis, TN).

Tipton is an energetic, motivating and highly skilled editor, reviewer, author, and grant writerwhose current specializations includeissues surrounding special needs foster care, gerontology, elder abuse and neglect, family violence, and developmental disabilities. His background includes

more than 30years experience as an editor, reviewer, and educator. He has taught at the University of Memphis and Memphis College of Art. Tipton is an advocate for special needs children and youth in the foster care system. He is member and holds elected positions on several boards of directors in Memphis and the Mid-South, and has published profusely in the fields of nursing and dental education, as well as in queer and Southern literature.

Author of over 65 peer-review manuscripts, his articleshave been published in Mississippi Quarterly, south: a Scholarly Journal, Southern Literary Journal, Journal of Dental Education, Nursing Education Perspectives, Southern Medical Journal, Journal of Family Violence, Eudora Welty Review, Journal of Interpersonal Violence, Journal of Popular Culture, Journal of Professional Nursing, Family and Intimate Partner Violence Quarterly, Journal of Teaching in Social Work, Journal of Religion and Theatre,The Queer Encyclopedia of Film and Television, Contemporary Gay American Playwrights and Poets: An A-to-Z Guide, Twenty-First Century American Novelists.
