The International Journal of Gynecology & Obstetrics publishes articles on all aspects of basic and clinical research in the fields of obstetrics and gynecology and related subjects, with emphasis on matters of worldwide interest.An important focus is the diagnosis, treatment, prediction and prevention of obstetrical and gynecological disorders. The Journal also publishes work on the biology of reproduction, and content which provides insight into the physiology and mechanisms of obstetrical and gynecological diseases.

Gynecology “The science of women” is the medical practice dealing with the health of the female reproductive system (uterus, vagina, and ovaries). Obstetrics is the medical specialty dealing with the care of all women's reproductive tracts and their children during pregnancy (prenatal period), childbirth and the postnatal period. Ricardo Martin

Chairman

Professor Ricardo Martin MD MMSc FACOG is an OB-GYN, married with 3 children. He attended the German school in Bogotá and was formed at the Universidad Javeriana of Bogotá.

He was the residents ‘chief and afterward, he joined the staff of the OB-GYN and Reproductive Medicine as an Institutional member of the Fundación Santa Fe. He also was a teacher at the Faculty of Medicine of the Universidad de Los Andes and nowadays and since 2012 he is the Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Human Reproduction – Hospital Universitario Fundación Sta Fe de Bogotá.

He also has a master in Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics and with the study “Association and Causality of Hormone Replacement Therapy and Breast Cancer” he was admitted to the National Academy of Medicine of Colombia. He also has been a reviewer of the Childbirth and Motherhood chapter of the Cochrane Collaboration for many years with Lynn Hampson´s coordination.

He has participated in many international courses of Epidemiology and Biostatistics for different specialties, in at least 12 different countries, leading them and organizing them, some in association with the Florida International University and the majority in coordination with local OB-GYN societies.

In his institutional work, he is part and permanent member of the Institutional Review Board and Ethical Committee for Research, as well as the Medical Executive Committee.

He is a very known specialist in Colombia because of being ethical, with strongly held principles, the leader in the different type of groups and situations, and successful as a team worker. He is always responsible for the tasks assigned to him. He is known as a person who is always looking for excellence. He is recognized as an outstanding speaker in multiple national and international OB-GYN congresses.

He has given more than 200 conferences in topics of Contraception, Gynecological Endocrinology and Menopause, in national and international meetings such as World Congress of Menopause, Congress of ISGE biannual meeting in Italy, European Congress of Contraception in Greece, National Congress in OB-GYN in Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Brazil, Argentina, Costa Rica, Salvador, Nicaragua, Panama, Guatemala, USA, Germany, Spain, Holland and others, and in the National Congress of OB-GYN and National Congress of Menopause in Colombia.

Conferences and publications: Dr. Martín has a long history of publications and conferences as stated. Lately the conference “How do we and how should we measure efficacy in Emergency Contraception” was given at a plenary session at the World Congress of Human Reproduction in Germany 2016 and the last international conference “Ulipristal Acetate in Uterine Fibroids: experience in Colombia” given at the ACOG meeting in Orlando 2017. The publication “Knowledge and Attitudes of Latin American Gynecologists regarding Unplanned Pregnancy and use of Combined Oral Contraceptives” was published in the International Journal of Women’s Health 2015:7 485–491. The last one, “Targeting factors for change contraceptive counseling and care of female adolescents” published in the European Journal of Contraception and Reproductive Health Care 2016 Oct 5:1-14. [Epub ahead of print]. Other publications as well. Lately, he was asked to be reviewer ad-hoc of the Journal of Contraception and Reproductive Medicine

Professor Martin speaks Spanish, English, German and French. He is fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, Fellow of the International Society of Gynecological Endocrinology, a fellow of the Colombian Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the fellow of the Colombian Society of Menopause as well as the member of the Colombian Federation of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
