International Journal of Genome science is a peer-reviewed open acess journal that publishes original research articles as well as review articles in all areas of Genetics. As a journal that has evolved with the field that carries its name, Genomics focuses on the development and application of cutting-edge methods, addressing fundamental questions with potential interest to a wide audience. Our aim is to publish the highest quality research and to provide authors with rapid, fair and accurate review and publication of manuscripts falling within our scope. This journal provides the means for scientists, researchers, medical doctors, clinicians and biotechnologists to publish original rapid communications, full papers and timely state-of- the-art reviews encompassing the fundamental and applied research in all areas of the genome science and technology. Highest priority will be given to short communications reporting important new scientific and technological findings. Short communications on new findings with breakthrough results will be considered for accelerated publication though authors should provide a brief description why the manuscript be considered for fast tracking . Genetics and genomics both play roles in health and disease. Genetics helps individuals and families learn about how conditions such as sickle cell anemia and cystic fibrosis are inherited in families, what screening and testing options are available, and, for some genetic conditions, what treatments are available. Genetics is a term that refers to the study of genes and their roles in inheritance - in other words, the way that certain traits or conditions are passed down from one generation to another. Genetics involves scientific studies of genes and their effects.

Julius P. Sserumaga

Research Scientist

Julius P. Sserumaga is a distinguished agricultural research scientist of National Agricultural Research Organisation (NARO) based at National Crops Resources Research Institute (NaCRRI). He joined NaCRRI in July 2008 as a Research Scientist and leads efforts in the application of both conventional and genomic tools in the understanding of plant-pathogen interaction to guide the breeding process for resistance to emerging and common African diseases. He completed his Ph.D. in Plant Breeding and Genetics at the University of Nairobi, an MSc in Plant Pathology and a BSc in agriculture from the Makerere University. His area of interest was the genetic basis for resistance, with a focus on Aspergillus ear rots and aflatoxins. In particular, he investigated how mechanisms for resistance to support decision-making in breeding for resistance. He continues to explore mechanisms using Omics approaches – Genomic, Metabolomics, Proteomic, Phenomics.

He draws on a variety of quantitative and qualitative methods which he has applied in the research and development context. He is skilled in statistical analysis and implemented monitoring and evaluation activities for capacity building programmes with the aim to strengthen research access, production and uptake, mainly in Uganda.

Major Research Interests:

  1. Evolution of cultivated plants, especially maize
  2. Omics – Genomic, Metabolomics, Proteomic, Phenomics etc
  3. Quantitative Genetic
  4. Plant breeding
  5. Plant Pathology
